BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES
BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES AOC
Approximately 40 villages in the northern Beaujolais are entitled to this appellation, established by the Decree of 12th September 1937. Beaujolais Villages covers 6300 hectares, roughly a third of the whole Beaujolais wine region. The average annual production is 350,000 hectolitres. Beaujolais Villages will refresh you, seduce you, invigorate you!
DOMAINE ANDRE COLONGE & FILS
The domain is situated in the commune of Lancié, which enjoys a unique distinction amongst the Beaujolais Villages: Lancié and its vineyards form an enclave at the very heart of the Beaujolais crus. Our neighbours are the crus of Fleurie, Morgon, Chiroubles and Moulin-à-Vent.
The whole domain comprises 35 hectares, 20 of which are Beaujolais Villages, and our average annual production is 1050 hectolitres.
Three impassioned men, Serge, Landry and Samuel Colonge, have dedicated themselves to the expansion of the domain and to the production of this great wine.
Our Beaujolais Villages
This cuvée of Beaujolais Villages comes from granitic and flinty-clay soils, and vines with an average age of 40 years. The product of a slow maceration and careful, temperature-controlled fermentation, it displays a bright ruby colour and subtle perfumes – red fruits personified. It may be drunk young, but the charm of this wine – which you may certainly cellar for a few years – will always seduce you.
Tasting Notes
- Deep purple, tinged with raspberry.
- Very expressive, the nose is immediately attractive and mouth-watering, marked predominantly by red fruits (raspberries and redcurrants particularly), and enhanced by a subtle hint of fresh mint.
-The attack is warm, underpinned by silky, spicy tannins. These sweet, spicy notes are followed by a slightly sharper tone, which gives the wine a refreshing, appetising finish. Overall, the wine is fleshy and harmonious.
- This fine Beaujolais Villages, made to be enjoyed with food, is impressive and generously structured, and will provide immediate pleasure, but may be kept for 3-5 years.
100 % Gamay Yield: 50 Hl/Ha Alcohol: 12°8
Maybe drunk at any time of the day or night, even chilled (but not too cold, i.e. 13-14°C, since the cold cuts out many a pleasure).
Food pairing: chicken liver terrine, feuilletés aux cèpes, charcuterie, brioche-style saucisson.
