Who are us ?
HISTORY
Andre Colonge established his domain in 1960, with 3 hectares of vines. In 1972 Serge Colonge, André’s son, set himself up on his own estate. Sixteen years later, in 1988, father and son decided to merge their two properties and created Domaine André Colonge & Fils.
Between 2000 and 2005 Landry and Samuel, Serge’s sons, worked independently on a few hectares of vines. In 2006 they joined their father and added their vineyards to the family estate.
Today, the domain comprises 7.8 hectares of Beaujolais, 20 hectares of Beaujolais Villages and 7.3 hectares of the cru Fleurie. The vineyards are spread across the communes of Lancié and Fleurie.
Only one grape is cultivated: Gamay.
Our soils are predominantly shallow and granitic, although there are variations between the different plots.
VITICULTURE
We Colonge cultivate our vineyards traditionally; we allow a controlled amount of grass to grow in every second row, and we plough up the other rows.
We work very hard in the vines, so as to obtain the highest quality from every single plant: we debud; we prune each vine appropriately; and we maintain a density of 8000-10000 plants per hectare. Some vines require trellising.
We pick entirely by hand, with two separate selections; firstly in the vines, and secondly when the grapes arrive at the cellar.
