Beaujolais Fleurie

FLEURIE, CRU BEAUJOLAIS

Already mentioned in the 10th century, when it was under the aegis of the monastery of Cluny (founded c. 900), “Floriacum” would give birth to one of the Grands Crus of Beaujolais: FLEURIE, thereby becoming a wine region of great renown.
It is generally considered to be the most feminine of the Beaujolais crus. Perhaps this is due to Our Lady of Fleurie, La Madone, who, high on the summit of her hill, watches over the vines …..

DOMAINE ANDRE COLONGE & FILS

Situated at the foot of the village of FLEURIE and under the watchful eye of La Madone, this superb domain has been managing its vines since it was established in the 1960s. The 7.3 hectares of FLEURIE, planted on south/south-east facing slopes, produce 400 hectolitres each year. Three impassioned men, Serge, Landry and Samuel Colonge, have dedicated themselves to the expansion of the domain and to the production of this great wine.

OUR FLEURIE

This cuvée of Fleurie represents a part of the domain’s production. The soil, essentially pink granite with large crystals, together with vines aged - on average - between 30 and 50 years, gives this cuvée the charm of a Fleurie which will start to drink in one year – certainly for those who appreciate younger wines.

TASTING NOTES

- Brilliant purple tinged with fuchsia.
- The nose shows great finesse, complex but not overwhelming. Floral notes such as lilac and rose blend harmoniously with ripe dark berry fruit aromas (bilberries and blackcurrants). A barely noticeable mineral touch completes this elaborate aromatic palette.
- The attack is supported by solid and impressive tannins, a youthful sign of a promising future. The predominantly spicy notes blend in with aromas of blackcurrant leaf, and then of bilberries, which produce a persistent finish. But underneath this imposing structure you can already discern the hallmark elegance of this cru.
- Adelicate, well-balanced Fleurie, with the structure to suggest that it will need a few more months to open out. May be cellared for 5-8 years.

100% Gamay Yield: 50 Hl/HaAlcohol: 13°

We recommend you open the bottle one hour beforehand, and that you serve the wine at 15°C.

Food pairing: Poultry and white meat, lamb à la Beaujolaise, Charolais steak – but with an older vintage.
And don’t forget the famous Fleurie andouillette.

«C’est en sa jeunesse qu’un FLEURIE est le plus séduisant»

«A young Fleurie is the most seductive of all!»
